WHAT IS AUSTENDER?

AusTender is the Australian Government's central procurement information system. It publishes information about planned procurements, open tender opportunities and contracts awarded by Commonwealth entities.

It is an important public source for understanding who supplies goods and services to the Australian Government, the purpose of a contract and its reported value and term.

WHAT INFORMATION DOES AUSTENDER PUBLISH?

AusTender is used by relevant Australian Government entities to publish key procurement information. This can include:

  • Annual Procurement Plans
  • open Approaches to Market
  • Contract Notices for contracts awarded
  • contract amendments and variations
  • Standing Offer Notices

It helps suppliers identify opportunities to work with government and gives the public greater visibility of Commonwealth procurement activity.

WHAT CAN YOU FIND IN A CONTRACT NOTICE?

A Contract Notice may include details such as:

  • the contracting Australian Government entity
  • the successful supplier
  • the contract description and procurement method
  • the reported contract value
  • the contract start and end dates
  • amendments or changes to the contract notice

The reported value generally represents the potential maximum value of the contract over its initial term. It does not necessarily represent actual government expenditure.

WHAT DOES AUSTENDER NOT COVER?

AusTender is a Commonwealth Government system. It does not provide a complete record of state, territory or local government procurement.

Not every Commonwealth arrangement will appear in the same way. Publication and reporting requirements depend on the relevant entity, procurement type and applicable reporting thresholds. Contract notices can also be amended, varied, cancelled or updated over time.
